Fine Antique Chinese Bronze Mirror
Item Details
A finely cast antique Chinese bronze mirror. The mirror displays a peaked scalloped edge and embossed design featuring Bodhidharma crossing the Yangtze river. Bodhidharma was a 5th or 6th century Indian monk who is traditionally considered as the transmitter of Chan (Zen) Buddhism to China. The reverse of the mirror displays a flat polished surface. A thin red red cord, not original to the mirror, is laced through the central boss. The previous museum’s inventory number is present on the polished side of the mirror. 1938.0294
