Item Details
An antique Indian miniature painting on paper of a god and goddess, attributed to the 17th century to verso. Composed of tempera, gouache, ink, and gilt details, this work features two depictions of a Hindu god and goddess, perhaps Krishna and Radha in the central register. Some script is written at the top and garden with flourishing trees is depicted below. The painting is presented under glass with a linen mat, a gold-tone fillet, in a gold-tone wood frame. Handwriting to the verso dates the work to 1650 and attributes it to Kishangarh, a small state in Rajasthan.
Condition
- considerable wear including rips, tears, scratches, stains, and paint loss throughout; minor stains throughout mat; gilt flaking, scratches, and stains throughout frame.
