A hand-knotted Caucasian pictorial runner. This expressive tribal wool rug includes depictions of an automobile, farmyard birds (possibly roosters), and eagles/doves in a lively, rectilinear design. Rendered in an abrashed palette of madder red, sapphire, black, gold, and mauve, the rug begins with a vertical row of five medallions in three different shapes over a red field. At the center of the central medallion is a depiction of an automobile set atop a pair of cruciform shapes, the medallion fringed on the outer edges. Meanwhile, the field is populated with four potted tree of life motifs, four eagles/doves, and four of the figures that appear to be farmyard birds in the corners. Framing the field are compound borders including a leaf and calyx pattern, three barber pole guard borders, and a scrolling geometric pattern. Selvedges are double overcast, the rug finishing at either end with undyed wool warp fringe that may include goat hair. The rug is unmarked.
