Antique Russian .875 Silver and Niello Purse
Item Details
An antique Russian .875 silver and niello purse. This late 19th century purse features an architectural landscape to the front with niello accents, framed within a shaped cartouche. The clamshell case has a complementary design to the back including detailed scrollwork with stippled and niello accents and a blank cartouche to the center. A chainlink strap attaches at the top. The interior features Russian hallmarks including the Moscow city mark, the assay mark for Ivan Konstantinov, dated 1880, along with an indiscernible maker’s mark. The interior is also marked with the 84 zolotniki indicating the .875 silver standard. The approximate weight is 3.840 ozt.

Collected in the late 19th and early 20th century and donated to a Private Midwestern Institution in 1938

Condition
some wear to the niello decoration and tarnish to the exterior. Strap is detached on one side.
