Antique Russian .875 Silver and Niello Cigarette Case
Item Details
An antique Russian .875 silver and niello cigarette case. This late 19th century silver and niello cigarette case features a chariot scene to the front, framed within a shaped cartouche that is surrounded by foliate accents. The back of the clamshell case has complementary scroll accents with a central blank cartouche. The interior of the case features a gold wash with Russian hallmarks including the Moscow city mark, the assay mark for Lev Fridrikhovitch Oleks and the year 1895 along with an indiscernible maker’s mark. The interior is also marked with the 84 zolotniki indicating the 875 silver standard. The approximate weight is 4.005 ozt including niello accents.

Collected in the late 19th and early 20th century and donated to a Private Midwestern Institution in 1938
Sold to enhance and preserve the Institution’s mission-relevant Collections
Condition
some wear to niello decoration along with tarnish to the exterior.
