An oil painting on board of the Old Testament prophet Elijah being fed by a raven, a scene from 1 Kings, chapter 17. The piece depicts the figure leaning back against a stone, a raven with a piece of bread in its beak flying towards him. This scene, against a desert landscape, is contained within an oval vignette, and has the words appearing to read, ‘Iron: XVII’, to the bottom edge. The image is surrounded by a red-backed floral motif and is presented in a black and gold tone frame with hanging hardware to the verso.
Condition
- fair; paint loss and crazing throughout; wear to frame; piece would merit from being cleaned.
