Three 19th Century Satsuma Vases
Item Details
A group of three 19th century Japanese Satsuma vases to include a pair with dragon handles and grotesque faces. The third small vase is baluster in form having various cartouches with scholars. All three are done with fine detailing, stippled textures and gold background patterns. All are signed to the bottom. The pair of vases with applied dragon-form handles are marked ‘Made in Japan, Chōshū-san, Satsuma Minoru sei, Painted by Haruyama’ (大日本長州山薩摩實生春山画) and the larger vase is marked ‘Satsuma, Tamaki’ (薩摩玉秀).
Condition
One vase with dragon handles is in good condition with handles intact, the other is missing a dragon head and has had the neck broken and repaired. The third vase is missing a guardian dog handle at the neck and has minor interior hairline cracks at the top lip.
