Framed Japanese Woodblock Print "Night Rain in Hirokoji" by Utagawa Yoshiiku

A framed Japanese ukiyo-e woodblock print titled Night Rain on Hirokōji (広小路の夜雨) from the series Eight Picturesque Sights of Ryōgoku (両国八景之内) by well-listed artist Utagawa Yoshiiku (歌川 芳幾, 1833-1904), also known as Ochiai Yoshiiku (落合 芳幾). The print depicts two elegant women holding parasols making their way through a street with an attendant nearby. The series and print titles are printed withing decorative cartouches in the upper left corner, followed by an extensive poem. The artist’s ‘Yoshiiku hitsu’ signature is printed in the lower right corner. It is presented under glass with a white mat in a black wooden faux bamboo frame. A hanging wire is mounted to the verso.
