Chinese Late Qing Dynasty Seal Stamp

Item Details

A Chinese Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) seal stamp. The seal block displays a carved guardian lion figure over a wide stone tablet. The stone is inscribed with Chinese script to the front face. The inked face of the stamp reads ‘Approved by [ a ] State Official’ (臣可 chen ke) 1938.0184

Collected in the late 19th and early 20th century and donated to a Private Midwestern Institution in 1938
Sold to enhance and preserve the Institution’s mission-relevant Collections

Condition

- damage and visible repair work near the top of the piece; residue present on surface of the item.
