Exceptional Chinese Porcelain Vase

Item Details

A fine Chinese porcelain vase on a wooden stand. The vase has a flared lip and narrow neck gracefully expanding to a wide shoulder. The white underglaze of the body is decorated with and overall interlocking line-work pattern in a vibrant azure glaze. The vase features flower-and-bird huaniao vignettes with exceptionally painted songbirds perched among flowering branches. The shoulder is decorated with a stylized ruyi border with delicate floral motifs in prominent shades of rose and sage green. The whole vase is embellished by delicate floral blooms interspersed between the cartouches.

The underside of the vase has a hand-painted six character seal reading ‘Bestowed during the reign of Qianlong in the Qing Dynasty’ (大清乾隆年製, Da Qing Qianlong nian zhi), however, the vase was likely produced in during the Republic period (1912-1949) or the late Guangxu period (1875-1908). A previous dealer’s label and date attribution label are affixed to the underside as well, alongside the previous museum’s inventory number. A small paper label is also affixed on the upper lip. The vase is presented on a hand carved wooden stand.
