John Stango Mixed Media on Canvas of Chanel in Blue

A silkscreen with acrylic embellishments of a Chanel bottle in blue by listed Contemporary artist John Stango (b. 1958). This works depicts a screenprint of a Chanel N°5 perfume bottle. The canvas is painted in blue acrylic along the bottom as well as the upper portion of the bottle. Flecks of acrylic paint in blue, orange, yellow are scattered throughout the composition. This piece is signed in black paint in the lower left and to the verso in black ink. To the verso, a horizontal hanging wire is present and this piece comes ready to hang. Stango is best known for his Pop Art style paintings. He earned his BA in Painting and Graphic Design from Temple University. His self-coined “American Muscle Car” style utilizes silkscreen printing and oil painting in conjunction with juxtaposed pop culture imagery and thick brushstrokes. His inspirations and subject matter includes popular celebrity icons, advertising, mid-century modernism, and more. Stango currently works in his warehouse studio outside of Philadelphia.
