Chinese Carved Soapstone Altar

Item Details

An early 20th Chinese carved soapstone altar. The three-part carving has a carved figure inside a rust colored reticulated enclosure. These sit on a tan stone base. The underside is marked with a previous museum inventory number ‘1938.0213’.

Collected in the late 19th and early 20th century and donated to a Private Midwestern Institution in 1938
