Reproduction Prints After Ornithological Illustrations by Gould and Peterson

A set of two mid-century prints on paper after 19th-century ornithological illustrations. Featured is a lithograph on paper after an illustration by listed English artist John Gould (1804-1881). The piece, titled Erythronota Niveiventris, depicts colorful hummingbirds surrounding a flowering plant. It is titled and signed in plate to the lower center and presented under glass in a wooden frame with hanging wire to the verso. Also featured is an offset lithograph on paper after an illustration by listed artist Roger Tory Peterson (1908-1996). The piece, titled Red-Bellied Woodpecker, depicts a small woodpecker resting on a holly branch. It is matted in tan and presented without glass in a wooden frame with hanging wire to the verso.
Condition
- foxing, toning and discoloration to prints and mat; water damage and acid burns to lower margin of Gould print; scratching, chipped finish and edge wear to frames; frames would benefit from cleaning; loose joints to frames; frames have torn backing paper and gallery labels affixed to the verso.
