Antique Original Oil on Canvas of a Cobbler

Item Details

An original oil painting on canvas of a cobbler. This painting shows a cobbler in his modest shop, lost in the art of shoe repair as he focuses intently on the sole in his hands. A nearly empty bottle of wine rests on the table before him, indicating a long night for the repairman, who is seen wearing a grimace as he works. The painting is signed illegibly to lower left, and appears to read ‘Oigons’ as the surname. The painting is mounted in a beveled gilt frame with a decorative interior border.

Condition

- lower right joint of frame is slightly loose. Inpainting throughout painting, particularly to lower left, with many other smaller areas around outer edges and in the rendered form of the cobbler. Finish of frame is worn. Signature appears to have been scratched into painting at a later time than at completion.

Dimensions
