An oil painting on paper titled Ed by listed American artist Edgar Hatten (1929-1990), executed in 1982. An abstracted figure sits upon a vibrant blue field of color block and emerges from a background of unique toned blocks. The figure itself appears in a cubist style geometric form defined by black lines. Signed to the verso of the paper and inscribed to the verso of the mat as, ‘Edgar Hatten signed verso/ ’Ed’/ 1982.’ Presented under an off-white matting and wrapped in acetate.
Hatten is known for painting abstract still-lifes and landscapes, integrating mood, concept, visual elements, and drama. He was born in Wyoming and lived most of his life in Los Angeles. He was a teacher at Swinbourne College in Australia, and in California at East Los Angeles College and Citrus College.
