An original oil painting on board by well listed Cincinnati-based artist Louis Spiegel (1901 – 1975). The image depicts a floral arrangement in thickly applied impasto paint, creating a low relief. The flowers are painted in a blur of white, yellow, pink, purple, green, and blue colors set against a background that reveals the board’s original texture stained with a deep blue. The painting is signed in paint to the lower right corner and a handwritten note to the verso reads: ‘Painted especially for Mrs. Alma Schneider, By the Artist L. Spiegel 1972’. The piece is presented in a wooden frame with areas of gold tone and pale blue finish. White linen lining borders the frame’s interior, and a hanging wire is attached to the verso.
