An oil painting on paper titled Folk 500 by listed American artist Edgar Hatten (1929-1990), executed in 1981. The painting depicts an abstract color field movement of geometric blocks in different tones with two seated cubist figures. Signed to the verso of the paper and inscribed to the verso of the mat as ‘Edgar Hatten signed verso/ ’Folk 500’/ 1981.’ Presented under and off-white matting and wrapped in acetate.

Hatten is known for painting abstract still-lifes and landscapes, integrating mood, concept, visual elements, and drama. He was born in Wyoming and lived most of his life in Los Angeles. He was a teacher at Swinbourne College in Australia, and in California at East Los Angeles College and Citrus College.
