A pastel drawing on paper titled Dark House by listed American artist Edgar Hatten (1929-1990), executed in 1978. Depicted is an ominous, dark house to the right of the composition emerging from a hazy landscape at dusk. A path leads through the green space in the foreground. Signed to the verso of the paper and inscribed to the verso of the mat as, ‘Edgar Hatten signed to the bottom center and verso/ ’Dark House’/ 1978’. Presented under an off-white matting and wrapped in acetate.
Hatten is known for painting abstract still-lifes and landscapes, integrating mood, concept, visual elements, and drama. He was born in Wyoming and lived most of his life in Los Angeles. He was a teacher at Swinbourne College in Australia, and in California at East Los Angeles College and Citrus College.
