An oil painting on paper titled The Lonely by listed American artist Edgar Hatten (1929-1990), executed in 1979. The painting depicts an abstracted landscape type scene in earthen tones with a lone boat sailing into the sunset and a large tree to the right of the composition. Signed to the verso of the paper and inscribed to the verso of the matting in graphite, ‘Edgar Hatten signed verso; ’The Lonely’/ 1979.’ Presented under an off-white mat and wrapped in acetate.
Hatten is known for painting abstract still-lifes and landscapes, integrating mood, concept, visual elements, and drama. He was born in Wyoming and lived most of his life in Los Angeles. He was a teacher at Swinbourne College in Australia, and in California at East Los Angeles College and Citrus College.
