18th/19th Century Spanish Colonial Retablo of Arcángel Miguel

A Spanish Colonial retablo image on pine board of Saint Michael, the archangel, late 18th to early 19th century. The image shows the angel wearing a blue and red tunic holding a cross in his left hand and scales in his right. He is stepping on a faintly drawn serpent. There are blue and red drapes framing the image on the sides. The board has a carved aureole floral decoration on the top and is framed in a raised carved border. The rustic painting is executed in black, red blue and yellow on a rough hewn board. 1938.unknown

Provenance
Collected in the late 19th and early 20th century around Santa Fe, New Mexico, and donated to a Private Midwestern Institution in 1938.
Sold to enhance and preserve the Institution’s mission-relevant Collections.
