Barton Lidice Beneš Mixed-Media "Money Lighthouse"

An original mixed-media artwork by Barton Lidice Beneš (American, 1942 – 2012) titled Money Lighthouse. This piece depicts a shining lighthouse above waves, rendered in disassembled global currency on deckle-edge paper. It is signed by hand to the lower left and dated 1996 to the lower right. It is set behind glass in a shadow-box style wooden frame with hardware for hanging and a gallery label to the verso.
Barton Lidice Beneš was a well-listed mixed-media artist known for shadow-box style pieces called ‘museums,’ works incorporating shredded currency, and works dealing with the AIDS epidemic. A printed biographic article on Beneš from the New York Times dating to 2012 is included.
