Antique Spanish Colonial Retablo of the Virgin of Guadalupe

A Spanish Colonial retablo image on pine board of the Virgin of Guadalupe, mid nineteenth century. The image shows the saint in a red and white dress and blue robe with flowers. She is wearing a crown with her hands folded. She is depicted against a light yellow background and surrounded by flowers and vines. She is supported on a crescent moon held by an angel at the bottom of the image. The painting is bordered with a black stripe with a wavy design. The rustic painting is executed in black, red, blue, and yellow on a rough hewn board.
Provenance
Collected in the late 19th and early 20th century around Santa Fe, New Mexico, and donated to a Private Midwestern Institution in 1938.
Sold to enhance and preserve the Institution’s mission-relevant Collections.
