Antique Spanish Colonial Retablo of Mary with Two Figures

An early 19th Century Spanish Colonial retablo image on board of Mary accompanied by two figures, potentially Mary of Magdala and the Apostle John. The image shows Mary in an embroidered red gown and navy robe with her arms outstretched and holding a red object in her right hand. She is flanked in the background by a man on her right and a woman on her left. The image is bordered with a black stripe. The rustic painting is executed in black, red, blue and yellow on a rough hewn board. 1938.0547

Provenance
Collected in the late 19th and early 20th century around Santa Fe, New Mexico, and donated to a Private Midwestern Institution in 1938.
Sold to enhance and preserve the Institution’s mission-relevant Collections.
