A late 18th to early 19th Century Spanish Colonial retablo image on pine board depicting the Blessed Virgin Mary. The image shows Mary in a red dress and blue robe holding a cross in her clasped hands. She is surrounded by flowers in the background and is standing on a tile floor. The rustic painting is executed in black, red blue and yellow on a rough hewn board. 1938.0549

  • Collected in the late 19th and early 20th century around Santa Fe, New Mexico, and donated to a Private Midwestern Institution in 1938.
    Sold to enhance and preserve the Institution’s mission-relevant Collections.

Condition

- darkened overall
- loss of paint, particularly in lower right corner
