H. Lewis Late 19th-Century Original Naïve Oil on Canvas Painted in the Style of the Hudson River School

A late 19th-century original oil painting on canvas signed to the lower left by artist H. Lewis, painted in the style of the Hudson River School, as the image depicts a peaceful integration of humans and nature. Mountains line the horizon, while thick woods and vegetation carpet the foothills. White sails are seen on the water’s still surface, coasting silently along below the cliffs atop which a church dwells. The painting is protected behind glass and mounted in a wood frame with a natural stained finish, equipped to hang.

Condition

- large puncture near center of painting, as well as other smaller holes throughout canvas. Canvas is warped and rippled. Abrasions in painting surface throughout with some loss. Would benefit from professional restoration. Finish of frame is lightly worn.
