A lithograph after Franz Melcher (1868 – 1944), titled The Phalene of the Sea Islands. This print on paper, which was reproduced for the monthly publication L’estampe Moderne, depicts an art-deco style woman standing before a rustic town. She is adorned in a foliate patterned top with a decorative headpiece, bonnet and necklace. She looks forward with an inviting smile while crossing her arms in an ‘X’ with outstretched palms. To the lower right corner of the composition is an in plate signature. The print is presented under glass beneath a single-layered mat in a red wooden frame featuring moulded leaf motifs to the surface. To the verso is affixed hanging wire and paper ephemera contextualizing the work.

- slight edge wear to frame; slight wrinkle and punctures to backing paper.
