An oil painting on canvas titled Picnic by listed German artist Ludwig Gschossmann (1894 – 1988). Depicted is a pastoral landscape with a group of figures handing a picnic amongst a harvested field. The landscape depicts a river valley with large hills and fields of hay. Signed to the lower left in paint. W.T. Burger label and description present to verso. The work remains unframed.

Ludwig Gschossmann was born in Germany and studied at a number of art schools including in Hamburg, Lübeck, and Augsbur. While studying at the Munich Academy of Fine Arts, he developed a refined painting technique and embraced en plein air painting. Gschossmann is known for his Tegernsee lake scenes, where he resided, horse and carriage subjects, and landscapes.

Condition

- indentation from the canvas stretcher is present to the upper left; some minor paint loss along the bottom edge.
