E. Gruber Oil Painting on Canvas "Roma Sancta"
Item Details
An oil painting on canvas titled Roma Sancta by Italian artist E. Gruber (20th century). The work depicts a skyline view of Rome at dusk. Shadows fall heavy on the landscape in the foreground as the orange sun spends its last few minutes above the rooftops. The treatment of drastic chiaroscuro leaves the city in an almost silhouette view. Signed to the lower right, dated 1973 and titled in sgraffito. The work is presented with a cloth wrapped mat and remains unframed.
Condition
- large scratched near the bottom edge; mat is frayed on all edges; paper remnants to verso.
