An offset lithograph on paper from Port-feuille des enfants after F. J. Bertuch (1747-1822). Friedrich Justin Bertuch was a publisher of a children’s encyclopedia, a journal publisher, and a patron of the arts. This illustration, a copy of a page from a children’s encyclopedia, depicts a light pink rose on a green stem. One bud is in full bloom, and many others are about to open. The engraving information in German is marked in the plate to the lower left corner. This botanical print on a backing board is presented behind glass in a cream-colored wood frame and wired ready to hang. A label adhered to the verso is titled ‘Belle Fleur – French Roses – Lovely renderings of roses done in 19th century France and published in ’Porte-Feuille des Enfans’ [sic]…The artist was M. Bertuch [sic]’.
