Two 19th-Century Hand-Colored French Engravings
Item Details
A pair of 19th-century hand-colored steel plate engravings of French political figures. One is titled Napoléon 1er: Costume ordinaire, depicting the famous French emperor dressed in formal military attire. The other is titled François II, du nom Duc de Bretagne, depicting the 15th-century Duke wearing an elaborate turban and puffed shirt with red tights. This print is initialed ‘L M’ in plate to the lower right. These prints are protected behind glass in narrow weathered wood frames. Suder’s Art Store stickers are attached to the versos.
Condition
- discoloration, wear and light foxing to prints. Both prints have penciled inscriptions of the date “1836” to the lower right. Frames are worn.
