Born at Canton, New York, Frederic Remington became the foremost turn-of -the-century illustrator, painter, and sculptor of western action-packed subjects with cowboys, Indians, horses, soldiers, and other frontier characters. This reproduction masterpiece is Inscribed ‘Copyright by Frederic Remington’ to lower base. Mountain Man was Remington’s 9th bronze and was completed in 1903. It’s subject is of an old Iriquois trapper and horse descending a steep hill and their motion is suspended in mid-stride. This statue is reproduced in solid bronze, cast in a brown patina and then hand-rubbed to bring out detail and highlights. The statue is then mounted on a fine marble base with an etched brass plate.
