Haviland Oyster Plate from Rutherford B. Hayes White House Service
Item Details
A Haviland Presidential Oyster plate, designed by Theodore R. Davis for Rutherford B. Hayes’ White House service. The porcelain plate, designed in 1880, features royal blue, olive green and gold tone enamel detailing. There are five white welled oyster sections with metallic gold tone edges on each. The back of the plate is marked under the Great Seal crest to the outer rim reading, ‘Fabrique Par Haviland & Co. d’apres les dessins De Theo. R. Davis’ and ‘Design patented August 10th 1880’.
