A Maria Theresia Thaler (MTT) modern restrike proof coin. The MTT is a silver bullion coin which was first used and minted in Vienna, Austria. Coins with Maria Theresia’s likeness were first introduced in 1741, following her death in 1780 new coins would be struck with that date only. The coins were used as the currency of trade throughout Europe, the Mid-East, and Africa and versions of the coins were minted outside of Austria, without approval, by several other nations into the 1960’s. The obverse of this coin shows a profile view of Maria Theresia, the reverse depicts the imperial double-headed eagle with the Arms of Austria. The rim bears the motto ‘Justitia et Clementia’ (Justice and Clemency). Composition 0.833 silver, 0.167 copper. At mint: diameter 41.00 mm, weight approximately 28.0 grams.
