An original still life in oil by well-listed American artist Edgar Yeager (1904-1997), signed and dated 1937. The painting illustrates in expressive, nearly abstract form a still life with a green bottle, two tone jug, lemon and fruit on a table top with draped fabric against a blue background. The painting on stretched canvas is signed and dated in the lower right corner, it is presented unframed.
Known for his modern abstract style and his WPA murals of the Depression era, Edgar Yaeger was influenced by European modernists such as Paul Cézanne, Pablo Picasso, and Giorgio de Chirico. Yaeger’s work has been exhibited at many institutions including the Museum of Modern Art, the Detroit Institute of Art, the Corcoran Gallery, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, among others.
