Husidio John Tempest Abstract Oil Painting on Canvas

Item Details

An oil painting on canvas titled 2 Horses by the River by listed American artist Husidio John Tempest (b. 1953), created in 2006. Portrayed with vibrant colors, curved lines, and sweeping gestural brushstrokes, this work features two orange horses surrounded by a colorful abstract landscape. The composition exhibits Tempest’s signature Abstract Spiritualist style with overlapping and intersecting curved forms, depicting an overall lyrical composition. The painting is signed to the lower left and it is presented in a simple white wood frame. Handwriting to the verso reads the title and dimensions of the work.

Tempast comes from a long line of notable and successful artists, stemming from Antonio Tempasta, circa 1600, in Florence, Italy. His father Gerard Tempast (1918-2009) was a student of famed Italian Surrealist Giorgio de Chirico (1888-1978). At the Art Students League, Tempast studied under artists John Howard Sanden (b. 1935) and Nelson Shanks (1937-2015). He maintained a close association with de Chirico and worked in his studio in Rome.
