An oil painting on canvas titled The Jester by listed American artist Husidio John Tempest (b. 1953), created in 2017. Portrayed with vibrant colors and delineated outlines, this abstract work features biomorphic surrealist forms, colorful swirls, curving shapes and organic blobs. The painting is signed to the lower left and to the verso. Handwriting to the verso also reads the title and date of the work.
Tempest comes from a long line of notable and successful artists, stemming from Antonio Tempesta, circa 1600, in Florence, Italy. His father Gerard Tempest (1918-2009) was a student of famed Italian Surrealist Giorgio de Chirico (1888-1978). At the Art Students League, Tempest studied under artists John Howard Sanden (b. 1935) and Nelson Shanks (1937-2015). He maintained a close association with de Chirico and worked in his studio in Rome.
