Splendid Circa 1820 French Oak Slant Front Secretary

A splendid circa 1820 French oak slant front secretary in it’s original finish with finely carved detailing. The desk enjoys lattice and floral carving at the arched bonnet over side columns and panel doors with brass urn and garland escutcheons opening to reveal two fixed shelves and a shallow shelf with a notched front edge. At the base; exaggerated scrolled hand wrought handles at each side, further carved detailing in low relief at the slant front in the form of draped garland, a fitted interior with three stepped drawers flanking a center cabinet with three secret drawers, all over three drawers at the base with open round pulls. The desk rests on a bracket style base with a circular pattern at the bottom edge and square reeded feet.

Condition
The secretary desk has minor nicks and scratches, all indicative and appropriate for age. The slant top is slightly warped at the top left corner but not detrimental to the functioning or appearance of the desk. One large key is present which operates the front cabinet.

The height of the top portion is 49" and the bottom section 46".
