John Ihle Limited Edition Aquatint Etching "Speak C.M. Speak"

A limited edition aquatint etching titled Speak C.M. Speak by American artist John Ihle (1925-2002), dated 1961. This work features two jagged amorphous forms comprised of fine hatch marks and erratic delineations; the gray forms are surrounded by a black abyss. The print is signed in graphite to the lower right margin; it is titled to the lower center, and numbered 8 out of an edition of 25 to the lower left. It is presented under white matting in a protective plastic sleeve; the work remains unframed.

Born in Chicago, John Ihle studied at Illinois Wesleyan University where he was a student of Charles White. He was employed at the Chicago Museum of Natural History as a botanical illustrator and later became known for his experimentation in printmaking. Ihle’s work has been exhibited by several institutions including the National Gallery of Art, the Library of Congress, and the Art Institute of Chicago, among others.
