An original abstract oil painting on stretched canvas by well-listed American artist Edgar Yaeger (1904-1997), signed and dated 1962. The painting comprises graphic yet organic intersecting shapes with the colorful palette changing where the sections overlap. A fluted wood frame in a distressed gray finish houses the painting.
Known for his modern abstract style and his WPA murals of the Depression era, Yaeger was influenced by European modernists such as Paul Cézanne, Pablo Picasso, and Giorgio de Chirico. Yaeger’s work has been exhibited in many institutions including the Museum of Modern Art, New York, Detroit Institute of Art, Corcoran Gallery, Washington D.C., Art Institute of Chicago, and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, among others.
