An oil painting on canvas titled Sunny Afternoon, Merida by listed American artist William Benecke (1934-2001). Depicted is large white home with European style architecture. The iron gates leading to the home are open and reveal a tropical garden. This piece is signed to the lower right corner in paint. To the verso, is an inventory tag as well as a biography of the artist. Presented without glass in an ornate wood and gesso frame.
William Benecke was born in 1934 in Chicago, Illinois and had his formal art training at the Art Institute of Chicago. He worked as an illustrator for several major studios in Chicago and also worked as a staff illustrator for the Chicago Tribune and the Sun Times. When he was 24, he traveled to Mexico and lived there for ten years during which time he painting and running his own gallery. He is known for his landscapes, garden scenes and portraits.
