Antique Handwoven Persian Tribal Area Kilim

Item Details

An antique tribal area kilim. Made in Iran, this rectilinear wool rug is handwoven in an abrashed palette of cinnamon, indigo, midnight blue, and camel. The slim-rectangular rug features a mirrored geometric design that begins with a pair of stepped diamond concentric medallions over a cinnamon field. Mirrored motifs include ashik Ersari guls and running dog patterns on the field as well as tree-like notched poles. Framing the field are crenellated divider bands and an outer border that features squared stars with cross forms over a midnight blue ground. Selvedges are single overcast, the rug finishing with short wool warp fringe in pink (possibly from dye-bleed), natural brown, and ivory. It is marked on the reverse.

  • Please note, this is an item that may be especially difficult to move and/or transport. Unless shipping arrangements are available and made by the winning bidder, that individual is advised to bring, appropriate assistance, vehicle, proper materials, and any necessary tools to pickup.
