Item Details
A hand-knotted Persian Bakhtiari floral area rug. This artistic wool rug features a highly stylized rectilinear design in a rich, abrashed palette of mocha, cream, salmon, and brick. It begins with a black star medallion enclosed in a larger, cream medallion, which is embedded in the field design in a way that makes it barely discernible. The field is populated with rosettes, palmettes, foliage, and vines over mocha. Floral and foliate spandrels also are barely discernible from the field. Framing the field are a primary border with flowers over a cream ground and a guard strip containing meandering carnations over brown. Selvedges are overcast, the rug finishing at either end with ivory cotton warp fringe. The rug is marked on the reverse.
