Ancient Cypriot Pottery

A collection of seven ancient pottery pieces from Cyprus, dating back approximately 2000 years. The Cypriot pottery includes three vases, three handled ewers and a small oil bowl lamp. The pieces are in both natural beige and terra cotta shades. The oil lamp is ancient Semetic, dated 600-400 B.C. Mary Creveling Krombolz was born on the island of Cyprus, where her father was a mining engineer. These pieces were unearthed during mining operations on the island. Cyprus, located 100 km west of Syria in the Mediterranean Sea, was first inhabited around 10,000 BCE and was a major trade source dealing in copper and fine pottery wares. Throughout history, the island has been dominanted by Middle East powers such as the Hittites, Mycenaean Greece, Assyria and Persia, among others.
