Outstanding Embroidered Caucasian or Khamseh Bird Rug

An outstanding contemporary embroidered Caucasian or Khamseh bird rug. This colorful rug features five stepped medallions in scarlet and indigo on an ivory field. The entire rug, including the medallions, is densely populated with a wide variety of animal and bird figures in bright colors; including dogs, cats, fanciful two-headed creatures, llama, sheep, peacocks and horses. The compound border is composed of two bright guard borders with a repeated triangle pattern on a scarlet ground, framing a wide primary border of antelope figures in an array of colors. It has overcast edges with thick bullion cotton fringe to each end, and is unmarked.
