Large Jack Meanwell Original Oil Painting on Canvas

Item Details

An original 1968 oil massive painting on canvas by well-listed Abstract Expressionist painter Jack Meanwell (Cincinnati, 1919 – 2005). The painting is a stunning example of the abstracted landscapes the artist is best-known for, though completed on a larger scale than most of his other works. It depicts a mountainous landscape painted in pastel shades of bright colors, all painted in broad strokes. It is signed and dated to the lower center margin, and is signed to the verso of the stretcher bars. It is presented without matting or framing, equipped to hang. Meanwell holds a special place among collected Cincinnati painters and is often associated with fellow Cincinnati painter Paul Chidlaw. The pair had their works exhibited together in 2010 at the Mary Ran Gallery, in an exhibit called “Paul Chidlaw and Jack Meanwell-Battle of the Abstract Expressionists.”
