Jack Meanwell Original 1992 Mixed Media Oil Painting on Paper

Item Details

An original 1992 mixed media oil painting with graphite on paper by well-listed American Abstract Expressionist Jack Meanwell (Cincinnati; 1919-2005). The image depicts a study of color and form through an intuitive landscape of aqueous blue pigment roughly mixed with thick, buttery yellow ochre, pink and green paint applied with a palette knife, creating a composition imbued with light, texture and movement. Artist signature is signed and dated in pencil to the lower right. This work is mounted under cream mat, under glass in a simple blonde wood frame with a natural finish, equipped to hang.

An instructor at the Art Academy of Cincinnati for over twenty-five years, Meanwell holds a special place among collected Cincinnati painters and is certainly comparable in many respects to Paul Chidlaw. The pair had their works exhibited together in 2010 at the Mary Ran Gallery, in an exhibit called “Paul Chidlaw and Jack Meanwell – Battle of the Abstract Expressionists”.
