A boat is pulled up on the bank in the foreground. No figures are visible. The painting is signed on the left side and is framed in an ornate wood, gesso, and gilt frame.

Lodewijk Frederik Hendrik (Louis) Apol was a Dutch landscape painter and a leading member of The Hague School, a group of painters influenced by the work of the French Barbizon School.
