A symbolist paper collage by Anthony Guyther (American, 1921 – 2017). It is composed of images cut from old engravings and hand-colored by the artist. It features the body of a young man with the head replaced by a footed frame and the face of an old man. The figure is holding a starfish, a sea anemone covers his groin, and a crayfish covers one foot. The artwork is signed and dated ‘A Guyther ’70’ in pencil to the lower right and mounted under glass with narrow multicolored mats in a blond wood frame carved to resemble bamboo. Information about the artist and his work is attached to the verso.
Condition
- frame finish is slightly worn in areas; light soil to glass surface.
