Muriel Backman was a notable California artist who exhibited widely and with success from the 1930’s through the 1950’s, including at the Crocker Art Museum, the Kingsley Art Club, the Berkeley YWCA and the Santa Cruz Art League. Muriel Backman is well-listed in relevant art reference works and her work is held in public and private collections including the permanent collection of the San Francisco Public Library.
