An early 20th-century color lithograph on paper after an 1881 painting by listed Hungarian artist Mihály Munkácsy (1844-1900). The image, titled Krisztus Pilátus Elött (Christ Before Pilate), depicts the Biblical story of Jesus Christ’s trial before Pontius Pilate just prior to the crucifixion. The work features muted hues of blue, green, cream, yellow, red and brown. The image is signed in plate to the lower right. The print is also titled in plate to the lower center, with additional notations of ‘Munkácsy Mihály’ and ‘Könyves Kálmán Budapest’ printed just below the image. The piece is matted in off-white and presented under glass in a wooden frame fitted with hanging wire to the verso. - to Fair; small areas of residue and wear to paper; toning, acid burns and foxing to paper and mat with age, especially to edges; paper and mat are slightly buckled within frame; surface scratching and edge wear to frame; tears and moisture stains to frame’s backing paper.
